Poor condition of the Mzuzu Stadium playing surface due to continuous rains falling in most parts of the northern region affected what was expected to be an exciting Saturday’s TNM Super League match involving debutants Ekwendeni Hammers and and defending champions, Nyasa Big Bullets.
Both teams resorted to play ping-pong type of football since in most instances the ball could be stuck in the mud giving no chance to a quick passing games the two teams are known for.
However, Bullets tactician Calisto Pasuwa was quick to point out that his boys have not yet jelled having exported some of the prolific players to other foreign leagues.
“We have exported a number of players far and wide so we are Paradiing these youngsters who needs a little time to jell, but soon you will see us scoring as many goals as we used to do as Nyasa Big Bullets,” Pasuwa said.
However, Pasuwa refused to comment on officiation and the bad condition of the pitch saying at times it works to one teams advantage or not depending on the team’s style of play.
His counterpart on the Ekwendeni Hammers bench, Etson Kadenge Mwafulirwa whose team is yet to register a win since resumption of the league from the novel Covid-19 break hailed his charges whom he said managed to put a spirited performance for the Bullets to run for their money.
“I don’t want to talk about officiation, but you have seen how we played this afternoon. Come and see what I am going to do with these young boys in our next fixture, we are not distracted in anyway and we shall remain focused,” Mwafulirwa said.
Despite poor wet condition of the pitch both sides had to confront the officiating personnel at different instances for some questionable decisions that made a huge bearing on the game and that resulted into Ekwendeni Hammers Team Manager, Benjamin Thole told to leave the stadium in the 70th minute.
Following a win in Mzuzu Bullets have strengthened their hopes for title defence with 22 points and third on the league standings while Ekwendeni Hammers are now on position 4 with 19 points
